In most cases, procrastination easily defeats people. It becomes stronger when you have high and difficult goals. The higher the goal the harder to achieve it.

Frustration beats people. And if you don’t fight, you’ll be defeated. And the only thing you can do to protect yourself from losing is building resilience. You need to stay focused and motivated when things get tougher.

Being resilient means having a tough mind. You can’t back down or retreat. Cowardliness is a habit of people who failed.

But if you want to separate yourself from the vast majority, you need to be a total fighter. And becoming resilient fighter requires mental training. Develop a thinking that resonates how successful people think.

Here are the important things you need to know to build resilience in you.

1. Keep a consistent pace

Consistency is a key to build a habit. If you keep doing the things that are necessary to be done regardless how hard it is, you’re a resilient person. For most people, this is the hardest part. Because when the work becomes harder and harder, it will become more and more painful. In this phase, most people quit.

But if you are a resilient person, you can’t stop. You gonna love the pain instead and keep pounding. Of course, it is painful. Everybody knows that. What every person does not know is that quitting is not a solution. Instead, it can only cause more pain than joy.

As a teacher, I always give advice to my students. And one of those pieces of advice is that if you climb a steep stair, hill or mountain, it will be so exhausting. The only thing you can do is avoid looking at the top of the hill or a stair.

Just keep your eyes on your feet. Take one step upward and observe as you go higher. I try this every time I climb a footbridge. What I discovered is that it is not that exhausting. But if you look at the top of the stair or whatever it is you are climbing, your mind signals pain or uneasy feeling. This is because climbing requires energy and effort.

Guess what, your body will react in accordance with your brain’s signal. And because your unconscious mind is programmed to avoid pain, you will less likely to take a courage to climb that footbridge.

In achieving your goals, the same force will threaten your resilience. For instance, if you have a goal that requires a long period of time, do not focus on the bulk or work needed to be done. Because if you do, you’ll get overwhelmed. Instead, focus on every task that is necessary to accomplish every day. One day you’ll be surprised when you reached your goal without noticing it.

2. Love the pain

This may sound exaggerated, but you need to. Instead of avoiding it, the best thing you can do is embrace it. But you can only do this if you are honest with yourself. Know exactly that what you’re doing is pretty hard. And because it is hard, it’s gonna be painful.

Some people would say that in order to build resilience you need to ignore pain. Well, maybe everyone has his/her own preference. And the reason why I love the pain instead of ignoring it is because ignoring means that you are not accepting. Love is acceptance. Accepting and understanding that what you do is really hard helps you anticipate the consequences.

Ignoring, on the other hand, can be inappropriate. Because if you can’t ignore the pain anymore, you’ll seek a resort to deal with it. This is when most people find instant comfort. Unfortunately, they end up quitting.

3. Imagine success

Most successful people have one common habit. And that habit is “imagining success”. To build resilience, you need to believe in yourself that you can really achieve your goal. Because if you don’t believe that you can do it then there’s no reason for you to do it.

If you don’t trust yourself, it will be hard for you to attain any goal. Why? Because you are killing your own dream. You plant negativity in your mind. Thus, you will never reap positivity. And the result? Failure.

If you want success so badly, you need to train your mind to imagine success like you’re already there. The mental representation of your goals gives you enough strength necessary to turn those imaginations into reality.

4. Practice gratitude

My final ingredient of resilience is gratitude. You see people complain about the traffic, recession, physical illness, and their relationships. But they forget other things in their lives. They forget to be grateful for life itself.

Instead of hating your negative experiences, try to divert your thoughts to positive things that make you happy. This process allows you to avoid negative imaginings. Because if you are a negative person, it will be hard for you to achieve any goal. Above all, negativity does not boost confidence and resilience. Instead, it harms your capability to attain your ultimate goal.

Personally, I can’t do anything without putting mental effort into it. My mind pushes my body to give my best performance whatever I do.
